1.03.2005

Ever thought:

"How can I contributeand make STAB and even better organization over the next year".

or "What am I going to do with all of these lutefisk leftovers."

Rick suggested things to do for STAB:
1. Next year will be starting a second arm of STAB. The transformation is composed of exactly the same people and all the fun, but completely different.
It will be more like a book group and we will be calling this "STABBBYA". It stands for Shoreline Teen Advisory Board Best Books for Young Adults.
meeting the 3rd or 4th Tuesday of the month. Why are we startingthis second arm you ask? Rick will be a voting member onALA's Best Books for Young Adults committee needs help with a few things:
a. help choose books to nominate for the committee
b. do all the reading
(the BBYA committee will likely nominatesomewhere in the neighborhood of 200 or more books this year)
c. help organize the hordes of books coming in
d. do more reading.
e. help with some paperwork
f. a little more reading

g. update the database of nominationsh.

it is important that since a group of 15 adults will bechoosing the "Best Books for Young Adults" some Young Adults should have a sayin the process. SO Rick will bring our thoughts and opinions to the 2 committee meetings. Rick will be our mouthpiece, so to speak.

2. How can you get started? First look at the YALSA website for the current set of BBYA nominations, pastnominations and past list of top 10s: www.ala.org/yalsa/booklists/bbya
Try and read few these before our first meeting in the last half of January. Also, take a look at the polices and procedures for BBYA.
This will let you know what books we can and cannot nominate http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/booklistsawards/bestbooksya/policiesprocedures.htm

3. The nominations that BBYAwill be voting on in Boston are listed as follows:
